Abstract

1,055,868. Rotary hearth furnaces. LOKOMOTIVBAU - ELEKTROTECHNISCHE WERKE " HANS BEIMLEB." VEB. Aug. 2. 1965, No. 32895/65. Heading F4B. A rotary hearth furnace for heat treating tubes of metal, ceramics, synthetic plastics or slag comprises an intermittently rotated annular hearth 3, a stationary upper section carrying heating elements, pairs of rollers 4 with journals 4a extending through the hearth wall 3a, and a doubletoothed crown-wheel 8 arranged round a central hollow pivot 2 and driving said rollers to rotate the tubes 12 as the hearth rotates. The driven journals 4a have axes intersecting at the centre of rotation, the axes of the remainder extending tangentially to an imaginary circle round said centre and having a radius equal to the spacing of the rollers. The individual pairs of rollers are connected by a chain drive 10 and a bevel wheel 7 on the driven journal engages said crown-wheel 8. The latter is driven by an electric motor through an infinitely variable gear-box 9 and through the underside of said crown-wheel 8. The tubes are loaded through a door 14 lifted by gearing 13 and discharged through a side spring 16, Fig. 3 (not shown), by an hydraulically operated ram 15. The hearth which is driven by a motor through conventional gearing may be lowered for repairs after removing supports 17. The upper heating section may be supported from the pivot 2 and from the foundations by devices (not shown). The sequential operation of doors, hearth drive, charging and discharging &c. may be controlled through relays in a conventional circuit.
