Abstract

Regulating; valves.-The invention comprises mechanism which is preferably integral and worked by the movement of a single hand-lever and will supply to the cylinders of a two-stroke-cycle engine high pressure air for starting ahead or astern, or low-pressure air for scavenging and increasing the weight of the charge or it will open communication between the two stages of the air pump so that the high pressure reservoir becomes charged. A rotary distributing-valve t controls the flow of air to the pipes y leading respectively to the head of each of the engine cylinders. The seating s of the valve is adjusted by the hand-wheel o, and it has four longitudinal passages v at angles of 90 degrees to each other leading to annular grooves w opposite the pipes y. For starting, the seating is adjusted so that a passage v is opened at the beginning of each outstroke and the valve 6 in the passage 8 from the high pressure reservoir is at the same time opened by a cam 10 on the handwheel spindle. For working with a charge of low pressure air which scavenges the combustion chamber, the seating is adjusted so as to admit these charges during the instrokes and at the same time the valve 7 in the low pressure air passage is opened by a cam 11. In another position of the wheel a cam 14 turns a bell-crank lever by which a valve is opened between the low-pressure air reservoir and the high-pressure end of the pumps.
