Abstract
1,055,041. Controlling reactors. SOC. BELGE POUR L'INDUSTRIE NUCLEAIRE " BELGONUCLEAIRE " S.A. Feb. 3, 1965 [March 4, 1964], No. 4744/65. Heading G6C. In a liquid sodium cooled nuclear reactor, the control or safety rods are adjusted by a spring and piston mechanism which is mounted beneath the reactor and which employs the reactor coolant. The rod is positioned by adjustment of the output pressure of the pump supplying coolant to the mechanism. The piston speed is limited during normal operation by orifices in the sodium circuit and is decellerated at the end of an emergency movement by a dashpot. In an emergency, the pump is stopped and the spring effects rapid movement of the rod.
