Abstract

Calcined lime or the like discharged from a rotary kiln is fed to a metal receiver 4 spaced within an insulated shell 2, passes over the conical surfaces 13 of an air distributer at the lower part of the receiver and is discharged from the base of the shell by a gyrating annular member 8. The cooling air by-passes the receiver 4, which acts as a soaking chamber, and the amount of air passing into the upper part of the distributer is regulated by a damper 14.
