Abstract

1,053,357. Packaging. RESTELLO A.B. Oct. 4, 1965 [Nov. 7, 1964; April 6, 1965], No. 41975/65. Heading B8C. An apparatus for packing a stack of coins 1 &c., in a heat-shrinkable film 2 comprises a supply roll 18 from which the film is fed and wrapped around the stack 1 as it is rotated by three rollers 10, 11, 12. The coins are fed down a groove 4, Fig. 4 (not shown), or the like, and are stacked in a tube 5 on a stacking plate 6. The plate 6 is fixed to a rod 7 which is fixed to a rotatable table 8. Also on the table 8 are further rods 7a, 7b each provided with a stacking plate and tubes similar to the tube 5 which accommodate other sizes of coins (not further described). Two felt covered rollers 10, 11 are pivoted about an axis A and are arranged to press resiliently against the tube 5. A third feltcovered roller 12 is pivoted about an axis B and is resiliently urged against the tube 5. The rollers are driven by geared wheels 16, 17. When the tube 5 has been filled with coins, the tube is removed to a position 5<SP>1</SP> (shown by dashed lines in Fig. 4) between the rollers 10 ... 12 which now contact the stack of coins 1. The film is then fed by air nozzles 20, 21 and by a guide 19, which may be omitted, between the stack 1 and the roller 10. A pivoted device 24 wets the end of the film, or all the film if desired, with paraffin oil so that the film adheres to the stack. As the film 2 is wrapped around the stack 1 the guide 19 moves along the axis of the stack (in a direction C, Fig. 4), and forms a helical wrapping. When the stack 1 is wrapped, the strip is cut off by a cutting wire 22, and the wrapped stack heated by a wire 23. The package is then pushed out by any suitable means. The film supply roll 18 may be braked to cause a sliding between the felt covered rollers 10 ... 12 and the film 2 so that the film is electrostatically charged and attracted to the stack 1. The stack of coins 1 can alternatively be wrapped in a single turn of film 2a, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), by exchanging the supply roll 18 for a roll having an axial length greater than the stack of coins. Sheets 2a of film can also be fed by hand to the machine.
