An adjustable back rest for a vehicle seat is pivoted to a base frame 11, each of its side spars 12 having an extension 16 carrying a pin which engages in a spiral shaped cam-slot 20 in a disc-like member of spiral contour carried on a spindle mounted in brackets on the frame 11, the spindle being turnable for adjustment by a hand wheel.
