Abstract
1,052,600. Seals. G. G. TURNER (Barnes Manufacturing Co.). Nov. 23, 1965, No. 49787/65. Heading F2B. The impeller of a centrifugal pump, in for example a dishwasher, is sealed by a U-shaped seal 30 having a leg 35 which is normally spaced from a wear ring 25 mounted on the impeller hub but moves into sealing engagement in response to pressure in the chamber 5 when the impeller rotates above a predetermined speed. The wear ring 25 may be formed of helically wound stainless steel wire of round or oval cross-section to allow the passage of fluid for lubricating the seal. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the wear ring 25 is made of P.T.F.E. and is of cylindrical form.
