Abstract
1, 052,263. Detecting magnetic bodies. G. & J. WEIR Ltd. July 8, 1963 [Aug. 31, 1962], No. 33438/62. Heading G1N. A proximity switch comprises two coils 61 and 62 wound on a U-shaped core and arranged in opposite limbs of a bridge circuit the third and fourth limbs each being constituted by resistors R1, R2. The two inductances have a capacitor C1, C2 connected in series (or alternatively in parallel) so that the bridge is normally balanced at the supply frequency. If now a magnetic material is brought into the neighbourhood of the air gap the bridge is unbalanced and produces an output signal. This signal may be fed to ancillary equipment such as a computer or, as shown, may be rectified and used to operate a relay RL1. This relay may then operate the second relay RL2.
