Abstract
1,052,085. Oxidation catalysts. RUHRCHEMIE A.G. May 13, 1964 [May 25, 1963], No. 19992/64. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] A catalyst for the oxidation of ethylene comprises molybdic acid, boric acid and phosphoric acid supported on a carrier, the phosphoric and boric acids together comprising from 0.5% to 25% by weight of the catalyst and support. Specified carries are silicic acid, alumina and titanic oxide. The catalyst may contain one or more further activation, those specified being Ce, V, Bi, Fe, Co, Mn, Ni, Ag, Ti, Zr, Cr, alkalis and alkalene earths. In the Example, silicic acid is added to an aqueous solution of boric and phosphoric acids and the mixture obtained is then evaporated, dried and ground to a fine powder. To this powder molybdic acid, water and conc. nitric acid are added and the resultant mixture is evaporated, dried, calcined, comminuted and sieved to give a catalyst of particle size between 2 and 5 mm.
