[Also in Division C2] Metallic oxide catalysts of the empirical formula: Fe a As b Mo c Bi d O e wherein a is 0.5 to 15, b is 0.1 to 10, c is 12, d is 0.2 to 10 and e is 37 to 99 optionally supported on chemically inert carrier materials such as alumina, silicon, carbide, corundum or, preferably, silica are prepared in conventional manner by mixing aqueous solutions or suspensions of the components, drying the mixture and calcining the product which may be pelleted and further crushed to a screen size of 8-30 mesh (Tyler-sieve).
