Abstract

1,050,444. Soldering fluxes. LIBBEYOWENS-FORD GLASS CO. May 24, 1963 [June 13, 1962], No. 20741/63. Heading C7M. A soldering flux composition for applying to a surface to be soldered, particularly for soldering lead alloy separator strips to copper alloy coatings adherent to glass sheets in making multiple sheet glazing units, comprises by weight 0À5 to 24 parts of a film-forming material e. g. methyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl-pyrrolidone, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, acacia gum, thermoplastic resin, polyethylene emulsion, rosin or rosin derivative, 1 to 16 parts of a fluxing agent e.g. hydrazine monohydrobromide, tartaric or citric acid, or glutamic acid hydrochloride, 0 to 0À1 parts of a surface active agent, preferably organic and non-ionic, and 5 to 300 parts of a liquid vehicle such as water and/or an alcohol e.g. methanol or isopropanol. Any polyethylene emulsion may contain morpholine. The composition dries to form a dry, non-tacky, adherent film binding the fluxing agent to the surface. Urea may be added to the composition as a flux improver.
