Abstract
1,049,962. Substation apparatus. T. G. HESSELGREN. July 6, 1965 [July 7, 1964], No. 28682/65. Heading H4K. [Also in Division G4] The conductors 30-39 and 90-99 of a manually operable plugboard are connected via cyclically operating switches 2, 12 to a source of D.C. current, the conductor 30-39 being interconnected by a rectifier chain poled in the same direction. With the cross connectors 70-79 as shown in the Figure, pulse trains are obtained on conductor 8 as the brush 13 of switch 12 sweeps across contacts 50-59, no pulses being obtained when the brush is on contacts 50 or 51 and eight pulses when the brush is on contact 54 (since the current flows along conductor 73 and hence via the rectifier chain 41-48 to conductors 30-38 so that there is an output pulse as the brush 3 of switch 2 sweeps across contacts 20-28). The pulse trains obtained actuate a relay 7 and may be used to actuate an automatic telephone exchange to connect the signal transmitter to the receiver station, the call number of which is represented by the positions of contacts 70-79. Continued rotation of switch 12 moves the brush 13 over segments 60-64 so that further pulse trains, the length of which is dependent on the setting of contacts 80-84 are transmitted, representative of for example the nature of a fault at the transmitter.
