Abstract

869,396. Electric selective signalling systems. COMPAGNIE DES COMPTEURS. June 12, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 20196/59. Class 40(1). In a field station system in order to preven a field station transmitting data incorrectly to the central station each field station is called by two pulses, the first of which prepares or " readies " a field station to transmit if it has received a complete unit of data and the second of which actually causes the field station to transmit if it has been " readied." As a further safeguard these two pulses are followed by a third pulse which resets a " readied " field station, thereby ensuring that a field station can only be caused to transmit data by a pulse occurring at the correct time. As described, the central station I, Fig. 1, calls field stations, only one, II, being shown, successively by means of a rotary switch 22 and these calling pulses constitute the first pulses mentioned above. If a field station is prepared to be readied (i.e. if it has received a complete unit of data, this being represented by the positions of two switches 6 and 12) then a contact 5 is closed (by means not described) and the first call pulse from switch 22 energizes a relay 1 which is rendered slow-to-release by a capacitor 3. When relay 1 is energized the field station is " readied." The second pulse transmitted by the central station actually consists, as shown, of two pulses produced by switches 19 and 20 which make at least one revolution for each position of switch 22. These two pulses result in the energization of one of six coils 50 depending upon the positions of switches 6 and 12, the circuit being via a winding of a relay 8 and a contact 2 held closed by relay 1. Relay 8 causes a record of the data (i.e. the positions of switches 6 and 12) to be made at the field station. The third pulse produced by the central station is a pulse of earth and is transmitted by switch 22 to make relay 1 drop-out. After this switch 22 advances to its next contact and a further field station is interrogated.
