Abstract

795,954. Electric selective signalling systems. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. Aug. 9, 1954 [Aug. 10, 1953], No. 23108/54. Class 40 (1). In a central remote control installation of the type having means for superimposing on a power distribution network a programme of repeated double control-orders, such as " On " and " Off " switching orders consisting of audiofrequency impulses, means are provided whereby the normal double-signal programme sequence is varied at least at one point as compared with its normal course, for transmitting an emergency or other special order at any time during the course of a normal control programme. Diagram A represents a normal impulse diagram of a central remote control installation, in which after a starting impulse i at time O, impulses representing the double orders " On "-" Off occur. References 1e, la, indicate the first " On " and the first " Off " position respectively, 2e, 2a, the second, and so on, the position where a control impulse is sent to effect the corresponding operation being indicated by shading and those where no control impulse is sent being shown without shading. If a change occurs in the control programme all the orders including those unchanged are repeated, the arrangement being such that not more than two successive positions in the cycle can carry no control impulse, e.g. 2a, 3e. Diagram B shows the arrangement for giving an alarm order by suppressing the impulses for four successive pulse positions 4a, 5e, 5a, 6e, this suppression of four successive orders being detected by a testing relay at the receiver. Since a voltage failure could cause the suppression of control impulses, coded special impulses le to 2a may precede the impulse suppression 4e to 5a. Diagram C, such impulses acting as switching off orders for positions 1 and 2. Different coded combinations of these impulses may be used to distinguish between different special orders.
