Abstract
1,049,928. Packaging machines. K. OTT, [trading as HABRA-WERK WILHELM F. OTT]. March 2, 1964 [March 27, 1963]; No. 4340/64. Heading B8C. Packages of rectangular cross section are formed from a web 1 of paper or the like having a heat sealable coating by scoring the web longitudinally and then transversely before passing it through filling and sealing devices. The longitudinal scoring device may be in the form of scoring rollers 3, 3a between which the web passes before being folded into a tube 14 by a guide plate 21 and fingers 22. The transverse scoring device 24 may comprise a grooved plate 28 which co-operates with a further plate 29 under the control of a pressure cylinder 31. After scoring, the web passes over a shaping mandrel 34 where it is sealed longitudinally by a device 39 comprising a heated pressure plate 40- controlled by a hydraulic cylinder 42. A feeding device 43, which is connected with-the transverse scoring device, is reciprocated in a vertical direction together with the scoring device. The vertical advance of the tube is effected between a fixed and a displaceable stop, the latter being supervised by means of a photo-electric cell 55. Heat sealing jaws 68 and 69 reciprocate inwardly and form a transverse seam 91, and the tube is then filled with liquid through a filling passage 36. The jaws 68 and 69 are then opened and the tube advanced into a position in the lower part of two beaker halves 76 and 77. With the tube now stationary, cylinders 83 and 84 are impacted and the jaws 68 and 69 swing inwardly and upwardly causing bars 72 to draw a support 73, together with the beaker halves 76 and 77, upwardly and engage in pawls. The tube is provided with a transverse seam 91 at the top end which is urged upwards between the jaw ends 68 and 69 so forming a rectangular top with lateral protruding corner flaps 93. The rectangular bottom of the bag is formed within the beaker halves. The level of the liquid is regulated by an electrical control system 56. Impulse welding may also be used, replacing the jaws 68 and 69. Cutters are mounted on jaws 78 and 79 and sever a previously filled bag. The web 1 is wound from a roller via a container containing disinfecting liquid into the longitudinal sieving device. In front of the tube forming device may be a further disinfecting device, e.g. a damping roller or a spraying device. Ultra-violet radiation for sterilization may be supplied in the region of the folding device.
