Abstract

1,049,909. Bottle spacers. KEYES FIBRE CO. Nov. 10, 1964 [Dec. 2, 1963], No. 45750/64. Heading B8C. A moulded pulp sheet 10 (Fig. 2) is folded about a score line 33 and placed between two rows of cans so that hollow ridges 24 separate the cans (Fig. 1, not shown). In the form shown the upper and lower edges 18, 16 (Fig. 2) of the sheet engage the rims of the cans to prevent vertical movement of the cans when the package is lifted by means of apertures 30 in the separator device. Finger slits 32 may be formed in the walls of the ridges 24. If required the ridges may be extended so that adjacent cans do not touch. The separator may be broken along the score line 30 so that three-can packages are formed (Fig. 10, not shown). A band of tape, wire or film secures the cans. Alternatively a sheet of biaxially oriented heat shrinkable transparent film 50 (Fig. 1, not shown) punctured at 51 may completely surround the cans. In another embodiment (Fig. 9, not shown) each row of cans is secured by a sleeve of transparent shrink film 52 and a band 54 placed around the package.
