Abstract
1,049,785. Vapour discharge apparatus. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 21, 1963 [Aug. 22, 1962], No. 32283/62. Heading H1D. An electric discharge tube has an anode 1, a cathode 3, a trigger electrode 8<SP>1</SP>, a lowpressure vapour or gas filling, transverse baffles 8 and means for generating a transverse magnetic field to act on the discharge in such a manner that when the direction of the discharge is from anode to cathode the discharge is deflected away from the baffles but if the discharge reverses its direction it is deflected on to the baffles and split up. The transverse magnetic field is generated by winding 7, or it may be produced by a permanent magnet or both a permanent magnet and an electromagnet, the permanent magnet producing a steady flux which is amplified at required time instants by a winding.
