Abstract

1,049,372. Magnetic filters. AUTO-KLEAN STRAINERS Ltd. Nov. 29, 1962 [Aug. 29, 1961], No. 31120/61. Heading B2J. A liquid filter assembly has a magnetic filter unit in which cages 3, 4 of magnetizable elements are disposed in the flux path of a permanent magnet 2, and means 17, 18 for moving at least the cages to a cleaning section 15. The assembly comprises a circuit formed by a filtering section 13 which is provided with an inlet 8 and an outlet 9, the cleaning section 15 which is provided with air or water jets 23 and a waste pipe 24, and passageways 14, 16. The circuit is full of cages, the positions of which are indicated by dotted lines 19. The cages are arranged to move continuously through castellations formed in the polepieces of several juxtaposed magnets of square cross-section; alternatively the magnets may be cylindrical and provided with castellated polepieces. Circulation of the cages is effected by push-rods 17, 18 and endless belts arranged in the passageways 14, 16 so as to present cleaned cages to the magnet and used cages to the cleaning jets. A modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), illustrates two filtering sections joined by passageways containing cleaning jets. In another modification, magnets and associated cages are circulated as a whole and the passages openable to permit the cages or magnets to be removed and the cages cleaned or replaced.
