Abstract

1,049,234. Cylinder intake passages. WHITE MOTOR CO. June 23, 1964, No. 25921/64. Heading F1B. An intake passage is formed, adjacent the valve seat 23, with a machined cylindrical portion 22 opening into a conical portion 31. The axis of the conical portion preferably coincides with the valve axis IVA, Fig. 2 (not shown), to which the axis IPA of the cylindrical part of the passage is inclined at an angle of between 0 and 45 degrees. Axis IPA is inclined to the plane DP through the intake port at an angle C of 30 to 80 degrees and is preferably at right angles to the cylinder diameter R, though this angle B may vary from 75 to 105 degrees. The vortex V of the conical portion may lie on the wall of the cylindrical portion so that a part E of the cone coincides with the cylindrical wall. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the inner end of the intake passage is formed in an insert 45; alternatively the insert may include the whole of the cylindrical and conical portions.
