Abstract

1,049,221. Doors. AMERICAN SCREEN PRODUCTS CO. March 19, 1964 [April 30, 1963], No. 11719/64. Heading E1J. In a preassembled pre-hung door unit for installation in a rough opening, assembly means for maintaining the door secure in its frame during transport of the unit to site and installation of the unit are removable after installation and securement of the unit in the opening. The invention is described for a double folding leaf door assembly, each leaf being hinged at 48 to a jamb and each consisting of two panels 50, 52 folding about the line 180 and panels 56, 58 folding about the line 178. These removable means for maintaining the door leaves 50-58 fixed in the frame 42, 44, 46 comprise an L-section member 72 spanning the leaves 50-58 adjacent the bottom thereof and removably secured to the jambs 42, 44, e.g. by flanges and removable adhesive strip 66, 68, 70 securing the leaves to the member 72 and located at the folding lines 178, 180 and the parting line 182. At the top of the door an adhesive strip 76 spans the junction of the leaves 52, 56 and the header 46. A door spacer block 75 and a door section edge spacer 78 hold the leaves in correct position within the frame. These spacers are also held in position by adhesive tapes on one of the door sections. A centering device 64 is provided to centre the door in the opening. The jambs 42, 44 and header 46 all of profile section are secured firmly together by angle pieces 130, 138, Fig. 5 (not shown) located in channels 132. The header may be in one piece or in two pieces with a leaf on each jamb and contains slot guides for the slides of hardware assemblies. Means are described for securing the two parts of the header together and a trim strip or decorative moulding is sprung on to tongues pressed out of the aluminium &c. extruded or rolled profiled sections 42, which may be adjustably secured to the studding of the opening by an L-shaped slotted bracket. The header includes a wall-engaging flange 84, Fig. 5 (not shown) joined at right angles to the body portion 86 of the header profile 46 by angle pieces 80.
