[Also in Division G1] A micro-wave phase modulator comprises a rotating disc 2, Fig. 1 (not shown), inserted into a slit formed at the centres of upper and lower surfaces of a rectangular waveguide 1, the disc being divided into m sectors wherein the radius is proportional to the angle and wherein the difference between maximum and minimum radii is #γg/2 where n is an integer and #g is the wavelength in the guide. If the disc rotates at frequency p, energy reflected in the waveguide is phase modulated at a frequency m.n.p.
