Abstract

A method of making a coated flexible parquet style tile or panel comprises holding a plurality of pieces of wood or chipboard in a desired planar array with spaces therebetween, by means of a jig, and filling the spaces with a flexible resilient compound which is of such a nature as to adhere to the pieces and which is sufficiently elastic to absorb movement of the said pieces relative to each other, the compound being applied in a plastic state and on such a manner as to fill the said pieces and form a backing extending over substantially the entire area of the tile, allowing the compound to cure and set and coating the panel with a polyurethane lacquer. Specified compounds are polyvinyl acetate and chloride, natural rubber latex, butadiene-styrene polymers, polyesters or polymethanes optionally admixed with fillers, pigments and plasticizers.
