Abstract

A method of making a decorative sheet material comprises (a) embossing a design on a sheet of uncured, resilient elastomeric material; (b) curing the embossed sheet material; (c) covering the surface of the embossed, cured sheet material with a transparent or translucent top surfacing material and (d) bonding the top surfacing material to the cured, embossed sheet. The top surfacing may be applied in liquid, powder, granulated or plastisol form. In a modification of the process, the surface of the embossed, cured material is precoated with a matallic gold or silver lacquer which may contain vinyl or acrylic resins. Specified elastomers are natural rubber, butadiene-styrene copolymers, butadieneacrylonitrile copolymers and polyurethanes which may be admixed with vinyl resins. Specified top-surfacing materials are polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers, vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymers and epoxy resins.
