Abstract

A sewing machine drive is controlled by a photo-electric switch comprising a rotary light barrier co-axial with the machine arm shaft and formed with at least one aperture, a light source disposed in the interior of the barrier, and one or more light-responsive elements outside the barrier to receive light through the aperture. As shown, a nip-shaped member 5 is secured coaxially to the arm shaft 1 by a screw 4a, and is formed with an aperture 6. A pair of photo-cells 10, 11, disposed in radial alignment with aperture 6, are mounted in supports 12, 13 secured to, and angularly adjustable by means of tongue and groove means 17, 18 on, a fixed housing 14. A lamp 7, disposed within nip 5, is carried by an insulating plate 9 secured to support 13. Housing 14 is closed by a cover 15. The alternative angular stopping positions of shaft 15 are determined by the respective angular positions of the photo-cells 10, 11.
