Abstract

1,047,240. Protective clothing. FEDERAL MINISTER OF DEFENCE, GERMANY.. Dec. 6, 1960 [Dec. 8, 1959], No. 42045/60. Heading A3V. A protective cape and hood are unfolded and spread over the wearer by gas released from an atached flask; this provides rapid and automatic protection against gases, radioactive fall-out and bacteriological aerosols. Fig. 1 shows a cape and hood supported by a network of tubes 5, 6 fed with gas through a header 3 from a flask worn on the back; alternatively cape and hood may be double walled and divided by ribs into cells into which gas is fed. After unfolding the cape, the gas is allowed to escape round the edge of the hood, keeping the atmosphere near the face uncontaminated until a gas mask can be put on; the hood and cape can then be drawn tight. The cape and hood may be of a synthetic resin material alone or as a layer on natural or synthetic fibre material.
