Abstract
504,827. Gas - masks ; eye - pieces. ROMER, R. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25938. Convention date, April 28. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] Gas-masks of the kind having a transparent face portion b carried by a face-contacting frame a are characterized in that the face portion is made from sheet material comprising a caoutchouc derivative containing chlorine particularly caoutchouc hydrochloride having chlorine content of 60- 70 per cent. Other portions such as a headcovering hood or fastening bands may also be made of the specified material. Union between the transparent material and other parts may be effected by heat and pressure and subsequent rapid cooling. Two or more layers of transparent material may be employed which layers may be secured together by heat and pressure, or may include fabric or wire reinforcements, or the material may be coated with ethyl or benzyl-cellulose varnish or other transparent heat-resisting and protective materials. The face-portion is preferably shaped to fit closely over the face, to minimize the dead space, and may carry a tilter-canister f direct or the canister may be carried by light metal straps k, which are secured to the frame a and to which the part b is adhesively secured. Eye-pieces c may be provided and may comprise light metal rings having sheet chlorinated caoutchouc stretched over them.
