1,047,218. Naphthyl acrylic ester derivatives. ISTITUTO DE ANGELI S.p.A. Oct. 11, 1965 [Nov. 2, 1964], No. 44572/64. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula in which R<SP>1</SP> represents H or an acyl group; R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP>, which are the same or different, represent alkyl groups or together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached represent a heterocyclic group which may contain a further hetero atom, e.g. a pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino group; R 4 represents an alkyl, haloalkyl, aralkyl or acyl group; and X represents an anion. They are prepared by quaternating an amine of the general formula with a compound R<SP>4</SP>X or by ion exchange. The amines used as starting materials may be prepared by (a) reacting the corresponding #-(1- naphthyl)-acrylic chloride with an amino alcohol of formula preferably in the presence of an organic solvent, e.g. ether, benzene or dioxan, and an acid binding agent or (b) by reacting #-(1-naphthyl)- acrylate with a chloroamine of formula preferably by refluxing the mixture in an organic solvent.
