1,046,868. Preserving food. N. B. TANOS. Sept. 6, 1963 [Sept. 11, 1962; Nov. 17, 1962; March 8, 1963; May 21, 1963], No. 35397/63. Heading A2D. The Specification is directed broadly to combining surface sterilization of meat, including whole animals, eggs and foodstuffs of plant origin not contaminated internally, by caustic agents, heat or penetrating ionizing radiations prior to or just after their transference to an aseptic room, with aseptic handling such as storage under oil in microbe-tight packages, mixing with other materials and other mechanical treatments (specified), heating, fermentation, inactivation of enzymes, cooking and the removal of constituents. Folds, cracks and cavities in the surface of the foods may be removed prior to the surface sterilization and undesirable formations consequent upon the surface sterilization may be evaporated off, washed, neutralized with hydrochloric acid or excised.
