Abstract
1,025,959. Preserving foodstuffs. UNILEVER Ltd. June 4, 1964 [June 7, 1963], No. 22910/63. Heading A2D. Foodstuffs are preserved by partially dehydrating them, until they are in equalibrium with an atmosphere of 98%-85% relative humidity, enclosing the foodstuff in a container which will prevent access of air and moisture to the foodstuff, and pasteurising. The container may be of flexible plastic. The food may be packed in an inert atmosphere or vacuum: The dehydration may be effected by means of microwaves. In examples, cooked and raw steak, plaice fillets, and carrots were preserved.
