[Also in Division F2] In an apparatus for the surface treatment of pipes, a cage, comprising annular members 15, 16 adapted to surround a pipe (not shown) to be treated, is rotatably mounted in a casing 10 for angular movement relative to the casing and pipe, at least two surface-treatment elements 18 being mounted between the members and arranged to be subjected to centrifugal force so as to bear against the surface of the pipe. The members 15, 16 are spaced apart by a pair of rods 17 each of which pivotally supports a pair of arms 23 carrying elements 18 at one end and detachable or adjustable weights 24 at the other such that, as the cage is rotated in sealed casemounted bearings 19 by a V-belt engaging a pulley 20, the weights are urged outwards and cause the arms to pivot on the rods 17 thereby forcing the elements to bear against the pipe. The easing 10, comprising arcuate members 11 and 12 arranged to hinge at 13 and lock at 14, is secured at 21 to a rigid floor-mounted housing 22 through which cleansing fluids may be passed. Said housing may resiliently mount waisted pipe-guiding rollers in adjustable brackets. Alternatively, as in the parent Specification, the casing 10 has no outer housing, the functions of the latter being provided by the casing itself. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), for surface treating the ends of pipes, the cage is driven through gearing by an electric hand-drill, a guard casing and a pilot bar attached to the drill chuck being provided to locate the pipe end with respect to the cage. The elements 18 comprise a plurality of abrasive rollers between which wire-brushes, grinding wheels, cylindrical cutters, or mops may be fitted.
