Abstract

1,046,554. Endless conveyers. SPEEDEX (ENGINEERING) Ltd. March 29, 1965 [April 21, 1964], No. 16451/64. Heading B8A. An apparatus 7 for conveying tubes comprises four endless conveyer belts 1 disposed radially about an axis along which the tube is conveyed, each belt being mounted on a carrier bracket 4 slidably engaged in guides 10 and movable radially of said axis by racks 13 on the brackets 4 engaging pinions 14 on shafts 15 which are all operated simultaneously via chain sprockets 17. Fixed stops 25 on each carrier bracket 4 engage a further fixed stop to facilitate setting all the brackets a fixed distance from the axis. An adjustable stop 38 on each bracket 4 is set to engage a fixed stop to limit the movement of the belt 1 towards the tube. All four shafts 15 are driven from a common chain 18, Fig. 3 (not shown), and each shaft drive incorporates a friction clutch to facilitate said setting of brackets 4. The said chain 18 is driven a predetermined amount from a motor driven wormreduction gear and further drive of the chain 18 to increase the pressure of the belts 1 on the tube is effected by pivoted movement of the worm gear casing. The belts 1 supported on rollers 5 on the tube engaging run and tensioned by means 6 are driven through chains and pinions by means 26, which are driven by telescopic shaft 27 via universal joints 28, all the shafts being driven by a chain engaging sprockets 29. The whole apparatus is mounted on telescopic legs 34 which raise the apparatus clear of any wheels thereon.
