Abstract

1,046,379. Combined sparking plugs and fuel injectors. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. May 26, 1965 [June 11, 1964], No. 22273/65. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F4] In a combined spark plug and fuel injection nozzle for use with internal-combustion engines, particularly for gas turbine engines, having a fuel passage extending through an annular space 9 situated externally of the longitudinally bored insulator 6 of the plug then through the insulator to the interior thereof and then through the axis or core of the part 12 of the centre electrode at the ignition end of the plug, to the injection nozzle 2 the annular space being sealed in a fluid tight manner, a bore extends through the insulator from the outer surface thereof toward the core of the sparking plug and into a fused mass or plug 14 consisting of glass made electrically conductive and forming a current conductive connection between the parts of the central electrode fitted in the ignition and terminal ends of the plug, and a second bore 15 is formed in the fused mass or plug as an extension of the axial passage formed by the tubular preformed part of the central electrode on the ignition end both bores forming solely the connection of the fuel passage extending through the insulator from the annular space to the part of the central electrode at the ignition end of the spark plug. As shown the injection nozzle 2 is a preformed component part and comprises a cylindrical turbulence chamber which receives fuel flowing thereto through two tangential bores. The peripheral edge or rim of the nozzle serves as the central electrode ignition edge. In a modification not shown, the nozzle carries an ignition rod and a fuel filter is combined with the spark plug.
