Abstract
1,046,372. Dowelling machines. H. NOTTMAYER and J. NOTTMEYER. Feb. 8, 1965 [Feb. 20, 1964], No. 5381/65. Heading F2H. In a machine for pressing dowels into bored holes in a workpiece 13 the dowels are brought individually and sequentially into the pressing plane and are pressed into corresponding holes of the workpiece by a punch 1 having its free end shaped as an injection nozzle 5. The punch 1 has an axial conduit connected to a supply of glue 3, the punch being movable in a longitudinal passage in a chamber 16 of the machine. The nozzle 5 is controlled by a longitudinally slidable needle 9 having the front end shaped as a cone valve 10 which in the starting position of the machine, closes the axial bore 6 of the nozzle. The needle is connected at its rear end to a control lever 11 swingable around a horizontal pivot 11a which on coming to rest at a stationary adjustable stop 12, pulls back the needle 9 thus clearing the nozzle bore 6 on the pressing punch having completely penetrated the bore hole of the workpiece. The machine operates in a two-stroke cycle so that at the end of the first stroke the pressing punch 1 has moved back to its starting position and the control lever 11 has pushed needle 9 forwards and the nozzle 5 is closed. On the second stroke a dowel 14 enters from the conveyer line 15 into the feeding chamber 16 and at the same time the arm 23 is swung downwards and presses a vertically movable pin 21 against the dowel. The punch 1 presses the dowel through the discharge opening 19 into the bore hole in the workpiece but makes a shorter stroke than during the injection processes so that the control lever 11 does not come to rest at the stop 12 and the injection nozzle is kept closed.
