A reinforced structure includes a reinforcing cable or cables maintained in tension by anchorages 1 comprising at least one male element 2, Fig. 12 and one female element 3 in which at least those parts of the elements which engage the cables 10 are made of a material such as mild steel which is softer than that of the cables, such that impresses 12, 13 are formed in said elements by said cables. Intermediate elements 14 Fig. 14, also of softer material may be disposed between the male and female elements. The male elements may be hollow whereby it can be located on a wire 11, Fig. 14, of the cable. Each cable may be associated with a plurality of male elements, or a female element may have a plurality of bores Fig. 16 (not shown) each of which receives a reinforcing cable secured by a male element.
