Abstract

1,045,824. Automatic flow control. FOXBORO-YOXALL Ltd. March 30, 1965, No. 13425/65. Heading G3R. [Also in Division G1] The rates of flow of fluid in a number of parallel streams 7 are controlled (and kept in a given ratio to each other) through a feedback control system including a ratio comparator 9 for each stream which compares electrical pulse signals related to the rate of flow in the stream with electrical pacing pulses to produce an error signal, a flow controller 4 for each stream responsive to the associated error signal, and means for producing the pacing signal under the control of a resultant of all the error signals associated with the several streams and of an independently variable bias signal, the means providing the bias signal being arranged so as normally to tend to accelerate the digital pacing signal and thereby to maintain a maximum rate of flow in at least one of the streams. The pacing signal may be produced by a mast oscillator 17, Fig. 2 (not shown), under the control of the resultant signal mentioned above, or, as shown in Fig. 1, by a flow meter 20 in a primary stream 16 which is joined by the secondary streams 7, the rate of flow in the primary stream 16 being controlled in accordance with this same resultant signal.
