Abstract

1,045,699. Metal sheet feeds. J. P. UDAL Ltd. June 4, 1965 [June 8, 1964], No. 23562/64. Heading B3W. [Also in Division B6] A reciprocating gripper feed mechanism for metal sheets comprises a plate 10 to which are secured a pair of transverse support members 11, which are connected by two pairs of spaced slide bars 12. A slide 15 is mounted on each pair of bars 12 and is reciprocated by a fluid cylinder 16. Each slide carries gripper jaws 19, 20, Fig. 3 (not shown), which are closed to grip the sheet metal by fluid pressure means. The cylinders 16 and the jaw closing means are controlled by valves operated by a part of the press to which the sheet metal is being fed. As the jaws of one gripper close on to the work, that gripper is moved in the feeding direction, the jaws of the other gripper are opened and it is moved in the opposite direction. There are edge guide rollers 13 mounted on each of the support members 11 and there is also a pair of transversely extending rollers 14 which steady the sheet. The length of the feed stroke is adjusted by screw-operated stops 17 at each end of the plate 10.
