Abstract
1,045,480. Toy aircraft. A. QUERCETTI. Dec. 4, 1963 [Jan. 15, 1963], No. 47879/63. Heading B7W. [Also in Division A6] A toy missile, comprising two parts 1, 2, hinged together at 3 and a nose section 7, has a device which causes the missile to completely open in a predetermined position of free fall to permit the escape and release of any objects which the missile carries, e.g. a parachute. The missile is launched with lever arm 26, 28 in the position indicated by broken lines, whilst the shorter end 26 of the arm contacts a catch 21 of the part 2, thus keeping the parts locked together. Upon initial launching the lever arm 28 is forced into the full-line position of Fig. 5 by aerodynamic forces. As the missile ascends the force of elastic cord 23 upon the catch 21 overcomes the aerodynamic forces and causes the lever 28 to pivot away from the fixed part 1 thereby releasing the catch 21 and unlocking the part 2. The missile does not completely open since the tension of elastic cord 16 overcomes the resistance of a lever 9 pivotally connected to part 1 and acting on a stop 9A of part 2. Upon free falling descent the aerodynamic forces acting on fins 11 (Fig. 1, not shown), and 20, and resistance of the lever 9 overcome the tension of cord 16 and cause the missile to be completely opened and permit release of a parachute carried therein. The tensions in the cord 16, 23 may be adjusted by the positioning of elements 17, 24 in the notches of rack 18. A capsule 34 (Fig. 6), with a transparent section 35 and shock-absorbing nose cap 36 can be frictionally fitted to the nose section 7, and upon abrupt retardation of the missile the capsule may become detached. A launching pad 40 comprises a foot rest and a recess 43 into which can be slid a holding bar 44. After creating a tension in the catapult (Fig. 7a, not shown), the foot is raised slightly and head 45 of the bar 44 slides out of the recess 43, whereupon the missile is launched.
