Electric speed indicators having alternating- current dynamos provided with rotating permanent magnets and stationary armatures connected to a volt-meter. The limit of indication with increase of speed consequent on the reaction of the armature field is overcome by the insertion of a condenser in the alternating-current circuit and the employment of an ammeter as the measuring- instrument, the armature winding of the dynamo, the ammeter, and condenser being connected in series. In order to obtain readings proportional to the speed, the range of the ammeter is limited to the steep portion of the curve showing the relation between current and speed prior to the point of resonance between the capacity and inductance of the circuit. The range of the instrument may be controlled by varying either or both the capacity of the condenser and the self-induction of the circuit.
