Abstract

1,044,985. Self-levelling pneumatic suspensions. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Feb. 27, 1964 [Feb. 28, 1963], No. 8105/64. Heading B7D. [Also in Division G3] A vehicle suspension system comprises a pneumatic spring 10 and pressure and exhaust air conduits 14, 15, each controlled by a valve 16, 17 actuated by a solenoid 16<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>1</SP> in circuit with a respective electronic time delay (see Division G3) and a changeover switch 19 sensitive through link 22 to the vehicle chassis height to supply current to one of the time delays and, if the switch remains closed longer than the delay time, to open the respective valve to adjust the chassis height. Transistor 33 will not become conducting to open valve 17 until capacitor 37, the plate of which connected to the base of transistor is initially at a positive potential relative to the transistor has discharged through resistor 35. In a modified circuit (Fig. 3, not shown), the bases of the transistors 32, 33 are connected to the capacitors 36, 37 through amplifier transistors permitting the use of smaller capacitors 36, 37 and greater resistors 34, 35 than before for a given delay time and the solenoids are connected directly to the current source to prevent arcing at the changeover switch contacts.
