1,044,699. Removing hide from animal carcasses. CINCINNATI BUTCHERS SUPPLY CO. June 14, 1965, No. 24999/65. Heading A2U. Apparatus for removing the hide from a carcass C comprises a pair of spaced inclined rails 24 along which is moved upwardly and downwardly a carriage 34, and a flexible puller chain 84 for drawing off the hide as the carriage is moved upwards. The carriage is moved up and down by hydraulic ram 62 driven by hydraulic pumping unit 80 including an electric motor 82. The carriage comprises angle members 36 (Fig. 3 not shown) joined by roller 46 and which members 36 rest on rails 24. Each member 36 is joined to a platform 50 on which attendants stand to aid hide removal. The platforms are provided with footoperated switches 54, 56 for controlling the movement of the carriage 34. In use, the carcass C the hide of which has already been slit along the belly and legs, is conveyed by the hind legs 14 along conveyer 6 to a position in front of the rails 24, where it is secured by the forelegs to support 18. A puller chain 84 which passes over roller 46 and is secured to a pin 90 on support 88, is secured to the portion of the hide separated from the front legs. As the carriage 34 is moved up the rails the chain 84 tightens and pulls off the hide. The platforms 50 pass on each side of the carcass C.
