Abstract

A yarn wind-up mechanism, in which a grooved drum is used to traverse the yarn on to a wind-up bobbin, includes means at each end of the drum for generating an air current and directing said air current towards the central region of the surface of the drum. This arrangement prevents broken yarn ends from travelling over the sides of the package to a position where an automatic finder or gripper cannot seize the yarn. In one arrangement the end portions of the drum are hollow and the peripheral walk are formed with suitably arranged bores to create said air current on rotation of the drum. In another embodiment the ends of the drum are shaped to provide fan impellers, or these are secured to the drum ends. The drum ends may be encircled by cover plates having a central inlet opening and a peripheral outlet directed towards the opposite end of the drum.
