Abstract

A curved yarn guiding plate 7 through which yarn is passed to a grooved drum 1, traversing the yarn on to a bobbin 3, is formed with two rearwardly directed webs 12 that define, in association with the plate 7 and the grooved drum 1, a passage that narrows in both directions of its cross-section. The purpose of this passage is to control the air draught 15 created in it by the grooved drum 1 such that (a) the velocity of the air increases towards the exit end 9 of the passage; (b) the discharged air is directed towards the central portion of the bobbin surface to guide a broken yarn end F1 away from the bobbin sleeve 5. In the particular embodiment described the webs 12 converge upwardly, their rearward projection from the plate 7 decreasing progressively towards the upper edge 9. Horizontally extending ribs are also provided at the end of the plate to act as labyrinth seals preventing air currents from striking the marginal edge of the bobbin 3.
