Abstract
1,044,552. Counting-apparatus. DECCA Ltd. Jan. 18, 1965 [Jan. 22, 1964; Match 31, 1964; May 12, 1964; Nov. 25, 1964], Nos. 2829/64, 13202/64, 19787/64 and 47995/64. Heading G4D. Articles to be counted pass through an aperture 14 between a pair of mirrors 16, 17 between which a beam of light is reflected a sufficient number of times as to cover the whole aperture, interception of the beam stepping on a counter. Light from a source 21 passes through lens 22 to a mirror 23 to be reflected to and fro between plane mirrors 17, 16 a number of times before passing to concave mirror 24 and photo-cell 26. Interception by a seed, ballbearing, hollow ring or large flat object produces waveforms of different characteristics which are smoothed and integrated in known manner (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), before application to a counter. Batching may take place with the feed slowed down at the approach of the end of a batch. For large apertures a laser 34 may be used. Alternatively, (3-rays may be directed on to a phosphor. Two devices may be used for measuring velocity of the article to be counted. The device may count articles of various sizes, the electronic circuit being adjusted for sensitivity accordingly.
