Abstract

Compounds of the formula <FORM:1044397/C2/1> where A, A1, A11 are each -CH2-CH2-, -CH=CH-, or -C=C- radicals; R is a tertiary alkyl radical; R1 is a C1- 3 alkyl radical and n is an integer from 1 to 5 inclusive; are prepared by reacting a diol of the formula <FORM:1044397/C2/2> with excess of a dihydroperoxide of the formula <FORM:1044397/C2/3> to obtain a hydroperoxide of the formula <FORM:1044397/C2/4> The hydroperoxy groups of the product can then be reacted with a compound of the formula R-OH to obtain the desired peroxide. Suitable diols may be obtained by the reaction of acetylene, methylethylketone, or methyliso-propylketone in the presence of KOH, the product being hydrogenated if desired to the corresponding alkane and alkene diols. The diols may be oxidized to dihydroperoxides by hydrogen peroxide in sulphuric acid.ALSO:Polyolefin foaming compositions may include, with or without other peroxides, at least one compound of the formula <FORM:1044397/C3/1> where A, A1, and A11 are each one of the groups -CH2-CH2-, -CH = CH-, and -CC-; R is a tertiary alkyl radical; R1 is a C1- 3 alkyl radical and n is an integer from 1 to 5 inclusive. Specified polymers include low and high density polyethylene and a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. Exemplified blowing agents are dinitrosopentamethylene tetramine, azodicarbonamide and diphenyloxide-4,41-disulphohydrazide. Carbon black, graphite, and metal oxides, carbonates, silicates and phosphates may be used as fillers.
