Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1044338/C2/1> in which the X and Y represent an alkyl, carbalkoxy or alkoxy group containing up to 8 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, or cycloalkoxy group containing from 3 to 7 carbon atoms, a phenyl or monohalogenated phenyl group, an alkoxyphenyl or alkylphenyl group in which the alkoxy or alkyl moiety contains 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or a phenyl, monohalogenated phenyl, naphthyl, biphenylyl, phenylamino or benzyloxy group, provided that one of the symbols X and Y represents an alkoxy, benzyl-oxy or cycloalkoxy group; salts with inorganic or organic bases with the enol form of these compounds; and a process for their preparation comprising reacting an acyl pyruvic acid or ester of the formula X-CO-CH2-CO-COOZ (in which Z represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aralkyl group) with an aldehyde of the formula Y-CO-CHO. Pharmaceutical compositions, having anti-phlogistic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties, comprise a compound of the invention together with a diluent.
