Abstract

Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1080128/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 together represent an oxygen atom, or R1 represents a methyl or ethyl group and R2 represents the group of the formula <FORM:1080128/C2/2> are prepared by reacting nicotinic acid, or a derivative thereof, with a polyhydric alcohol of the formula <FORM:1080128/C2/3> or a derivative thereof, wherein R3 and R4 together represent an oxygen atom or R3 represents a methyl or ethyl group and R4 represents a hydroxymethyl group. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound of the invention together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
