1,044,121. Photothermographic copying apparatus. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. Jan. 10. 1964 [Jan. 11, 1963], No. 1307/64. Heading G2A. A copying machine comprises in combination in a casing 1, 2, 3, 4 (1) a source of actinic radiation 12 (2) a means 5, 6, 20 and 21 for feeding a photothermographic transfer matrix web 7 intermittently into the path of the actinic radiation from the said source for exposure to original material 9 and 39 to be copied (3) on exposure support 8 transparent to the actinic radiation, for the matrix web (4) means e.g. slots 10 or opening 40 with cover 41 having a resilient lower surface 42, for insertion into, and removal from, the machine of the original material, or for holding the original material in the machine (5) a source of heat e.g. heated drum 13 (6) means for feeding the exposed photothermographic matrix web past the said heat source in surface contact with receptor web 15 or sheet 43 such as a pressure roll 14 and (7) means for feeding the receptor sheet into contact with the matrix web, separating it from the matrix web, and removing it from the machine e.g. the rolls 16 and 17 and exit slot 19 of Fig. 1 for a receptor web or the entrance and exit slots 44 and 47, stripper blade 45 and exit shoot 46 of Fig. 2 for a receptor sheet and (8) a means for reversing the matrix web feeding means to permit more than a single transfer from the already exposed web to successive receptor sheets. In alternative embodiments of the invention the matrix web may be exposed by transmission or projection and the exposure support may be omitted.
