Abstract

1,043,986. Testing fuel injection pumps. FRIEDMANN & MAIER. June 24, 1963 [Aug. 11, 1962], No. 24971/63. Heading F1A. In a test stand for a fuel injection pump, in which the support for the nozzles and measuring glasses is mounted by a horizontal pivoted arm for pivotal movement from one side of the test stand to the other, the pivoted arm extends below a bracket only one end of which is fixed to the frame of the test stand and which is intended for fixing the pump to be tested. A support 4, Figs. 1 and 3, carrying testing nozzles 17 and a holder 11 for measuring glasses has an arm 13 provided with a slot 15 receiving a pin 14 about which the support 4 may be rotated through 180 degrees when it is fully extended laterally of the test stand. Only in this position can the curved end 18 of a bridge piece 19 pass between the pin 14 and a stop 24, thus the danger of collision of the support 4 with the test pump support bracket 20 or a pump mounted thereon is avoided. Two further stops 23 govern the two extreme angular positions of the support 4 lockable by a nut or handle 16. The stops 23, 24 may be replaced by a strip, and the stops or strip may have a soft covering such as rubber. The bridge piece 19 may be removed and the support 4 replaced. A frame 8, 9, supported by half-shells 10 and retractable to avoid obstruction, supports the holder 11 through half-shells 12. Thus the holder 11 and the frame 8, 9 may be moved to either side of the support 4 for reading the liquid levels in the measuring glasses. The latter are emptied by tilting, the discharged testing oil passing through a pan in the support 4, a conduit 26 in the arm 13 and a pan 27 in a bench 1 to a container below the bench. In a modification, Fig. 5, an extension of the pin 14 is gripped by plastic plugs (not shown) in the bore of a tube 34 connected by its ends to the bracket 20, the plugs being forced against the extension by bolts screwed into the ends of the tube 34. It is stated that in a known arrangement the pivot for the nozzle and measuring glass support is a large circular disc which is embraced by an annular horizontal arm of the support, and the pump under test is clamped to the bench and must be removed before the support can be swung from one side of the test bench to the other.
