Abstract

A selected weft 12, passing from a bobbin 14 through a clamp 18 and guide 20 to the fabric, is brought into the path of the inserter 10 and cutter 42 by a reciprocating positioner 24 which contacts the weft when its guide 20 is moved out of the guide block 54 by a pattern chain 94. In operation a pattern lag 96 pivots a selection lever 86 which moves a member 68 into the path of a bell crank 72 which, when oscillated from the loom drive, moves the member 68 longitudinally. This causes the guide 20 to be pushed out and, when a gap 126 is closed, the clamp 18 to open. The positioner 24 is then lowered and the inserter 10 moved to pick the weft 12, drawing it off the spool 14 through the clamp 18. At center shed the weft is transferred to a receiver 132, the clamp 18 closes, the cutter 42 operates and the receiver 132 withdraws the cut weft (Fig. 6)
