Abstract

1,043,711. Making boxes. PARNALL & SONS Ltd. Jan. 27, 1964 [Jan. 29, 1963], No. 3587/63. Heading B5D. A box of a plastics sheet material, which may be foamed polystyrene with a continuous skin on both surfaces, is formed in a die and plunger machine having a hot shearing edge which removes surplus material at the box comers and heat seals the resulting edges of the side walls. The die has gaps 23 at the junctions of adjacent walls through which excess comer material 19 of the sheet material is folded as the plunger enters the die. Electrically heated shearing means 21 part off the excess material and simultaneously weld together the vertical edges of adjacent side walls. A spring-loaded stripper block is provided. The bottom corners of the hose are sealed by electrically heated metal corner pieces on the plunger.
